I was in great company when I attended the Plan International's International Day of the Girl Breakfast this morning at the Hilton Hotel. Local businessmen and women, individuals from local community organisations and Members of Parliament from all sides were in attendance as Plan International celebrated International Day of the Girl, Sunday 11 October.
We learnt about Plan International's 'Because I am a Girl' campaign, which looks to break 8 barriers to girls around the world excelling and fulfilling their potential; from issues such as child marriage to less importance being placed on the education of girls. There were excellent guest speakers who spoke about their commitment to helping to breakdown barriers for girls, both here and overseas, including Ms Mia Klitsas, co-founder of Mille & More, and a young university student from Adelaide who is a global youth Ambassador for Plan International's campaign. Attendees were also treated to wonderful performances from the Australian Girls Choir.
