State Liberals back Strathalbyn community and businesses

The State Liberals have listened to the Strathalbyn community, local businesses and the Alexandrina Council and will support the decision to reject the proposal for a retail development outside the township.

If elected in March 2018, a Marshall Liberal Government will not overturn the decision of the
Council.

“The Liberal Party supports the Strathalbyn community’s view that retail development should be within the town and in keeping with the Council’s plan to preserve the heritage of the main road shopping strips,” said Shadow Minister for Planning David Pisoni.

“There is a plan to link the two main retail precincts of High Street and Dawson Street, which would drive investment in the town, while maintaining the unique historic character of Strathalbyn.”

The Liberal Candidate for Heysen Josh Teague shares the aspirations of the local community and has welcomed the State Liberals’ support for Strathalbyn businesses and the town.

“The feedback from people in Strathalbyn has been overwhelmingly in favour of supporting the existing retail strips within the town, and therefore rejecting the retail development proposal outside the town."

“I’m very keen to work with the Council and local businesses on plans to link High Street and Dawson Street and maintain the heritage feel of Strathalbyn whilst also improving the amenity of those retail areas of the town.

“It’s pleasing that the views of the local community have been listened to, with a good outcome for Strathalbyn."
