After a huge amount of hard work and commitment to the cause, users of the Conyngham Street Dog Park can breathe a sigh of relief, with the Eastern Courier reporting on 2 September that the City of Burnside Council signed a 10 year lease with the State Government.
Since 2013, there was ongoing uncertainty about whether the State Labor Government would sell off the land; which would leave many local residents and their doggy family members with limited space for exercise and socialising in the Burnside area. Over 700 residents signed a petition which I tabled in Parliament in November 2013, stating their support for the continued use of the land as a dog recreation and exercise park.
With the State Labor Government's decision to sell off surrounding land and turn it into high density housing, I believe securing the Conyngham Street Dog Park for at least another 10 years is a win for local residents and I hope this land will be available for use for many more years to come.
