Unley Remembers with Gratitude

Wednesday 11 November 2015 marked the 97th Anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914-1918). As part the commemoration of the ANZAC Centenary, students from the schools in the Unley area remembered their old scholars who served our country by unveiling memorial plaques at the Unley Remembrance Day ceremony at the Unley Soldiers Memorial Gardens.

The Unley RSL used a Federal grant to create the memorial plaques to allow for an opportunity for local schools to have a permanent reminder of members of their school community, both male and female, who contributed to the World War 1 effort, overseas and at home.

Alongside, members of the RSL, community leaders and Unley residents, up to 250 students, teachers and parents from schools across Unley were in attendance and I believe the ceremony was a respectful and poignant commemoration of the sacrifices, past and present, of Australia's servicemen and women.
